Synopsis: Hood attempts to solve a case involving a flesh-eating sexually transmitted disease.


Flesh: Episode 9

Episode Summary
Jacob Hood and Rachel Young are sent to Daytona Beach, FL where several young men and women are partying it up for Spring Break. Two men have recently died after a night of partying, but during their autopsies, their hearts spontaneously begin beating. One of these men actually survives.

Rachel learns that the survivor, Lenny, and his friend have recently had sex with the same woman. Rachel suspects that this woman was not a willing participant and tracks her down. It turns out that the woman was not a willing participant, but that she is also suffering from the same problem, referred to as "suspended animation"

The disease appears to be sexually transmitted. It turns deadly when Lenny's body is ravaged by necrotizing fasciitis (or flesh eating bacteria). Hood learns that the victims' hearts are not completely stopping, but instead, they are just incredibly slow (5 beats per minute). This actually protects the victims from developing the flesh eating bacteria.

Doctors must work to keep the bodies in suspended animation while Hood attempts to determine the source of the bacteria. Rachel works to stop the spreading of the bacteria by researching the victims, identifying the perpetrators, and putting an end to the sexual exploits.

Hood and Rachel eventually determine that the source of the bacteria is a NASA scientists whose daughter was raped by the same group of boys during the previous year's Spring Break.
